A further topic of interest is the use of virtual learning environments (VLE) within teaching and learning.
Again as students are now more technologically confident using this as a method of delivery should surely only become beneficial?
The question of student and teacher participation however is an obstacle at present whereby VLE’s are being used more as a repository rather than a frequented tool for learning.

Probably the biggest block on this is the implementation of a sustainable staff development program. How do you target overworked staff and engage commitment when institutions are continually reorganising their infrastructure and show no commitment to embedding a solid staff development platform.
ReplyDeleteHow is the engagement managed with part time or agency staff where there is no incentive to participate in the little training that is offered.
Better training and exposure to new and emerging technologies will minimise and create a better understanding on how tools should be managed that are available within institutions.

The topic of overworked staff is an interesting comment. Yes staff are worked to their full potential, however if it is necessary to implement chnages so that student participation is hightened then surely all staff would use their time more effectively to encourage this?
ReplyDeleteTraining is an issue and one barrier I have come accross myself. As I have just started my first full time postion after completing my PGCE I now have to beg, steal and borrow people or workshop places to undertake simple training such as black board and SMART board activities. This is at times very frustrating.
Diluting the barriers is essential for any insitution, but how to do this is the question?
